What's Hot This Month At Classic Fine Foods: August Edition

- Categories : Seasonality

August is the month of abundant and delightful summer foods! From juicy fruits to fresh vegetables, at Classic Fine Foods we have selected a range of spring-summer products to help you create a true culinary feast for the senses.

We are also excited to announce that we are opening a new hub in the South West in September, more information on this will be revealed in the coming weeks.

With Classic Harvest by Classic Fine Foods, we want to offer you the best selection of seasonal and high-quality fruit & vegetables coming from the best farms in the UK and Europe.

Fruit

The heat of the summer calls for refreshing produce, from juicy watermelons to Charentais melons and British jumbo cherries. Full of vibrant flavours, these are perfect for adding some sweetness into summer salads, salsas and gazpachos.

Delicious stone fruits continue to be in abundance, with gloriously sweet Greengage Plums in season and ready to pick. These unique plums have an intense sweetness and scarcity, making them the truffle of plums. Pair with cheese and wine or turn into a sorbet.

Veg

Salad season continues with the harvesting of baby gem lettuce, British peas, baby cucumber and fennel.

This month, the star of the show has to be our corn on the cob. This is the perfect vegetable to tie summer and autumn together. With a wonderful sweet flavour and juicy texture, they are perfect grilled on a BBQ in garlic butter or as part of a salsa.

Take a look at our Harvest Seasonal Calendar for more information on what fruit and veg are in season every month at Classic Fine Foods, here.

Fruit Purees

The summer heat calls for refreshing frozen treats. Explore making gourmet popsicles, sorbets, granitas or gelato using a range of vibrant fruit flavours like watermelon, mango, raspberry, and lemon.

Ponthier’s frozen 100% melon puree uses Quercy melons from the Quercy region of France. The melons have a wonderful musky, sweet flavour and juicy flesh and the frozen puree has a soft orange colour and smooth texture. Use in your frozen treats alongside redcurrant, raspberry or nectarine.

Seafood

We have added frozen Canadian raw scallops to our specially selected seafood range. The scallops are MSC certified wild scallops farmed in Canada all year round, frozen in less than 1 hour for maximum freshness and flavour. You will find these scallops in two sizes, large and medium. Perfect for ceviche or seared to top salads.

Meat

Game season is around the corner, bringing in a great range of alternatives to chicken, beef, pork or lamb. Game meats are low in fat and cholesterol, making them some of the healthiest meats available on the market.

The star of the show from Turners Game’s wide range of products is their wild wood pigeon. With a rich, gamey and earthy taste, wild wood pigeon is perfect if you’re looking for a unique culinary experience. To fully appreciate the natural flavours, pair it with complementary ingredients such as juniper berries, wild mushrooms, red wine, or dark fruit sauces.
