Winter is in full swing in the UK but there is still a wide variety of fresh produce to get excited about! Valentine’s Day is also right round the corner so at Classic Fine Foods, we have launched a collection of products to bring a little passion to your menus!

Fruit

Beautiful blood oranges and neon pink forced rhubarb are plentiful in February. These delicious and colourful fruits are perfect for your Valentine’s Day desserts.

The first strawberries of the year are ready to harvest. Fraise des bois and gariguettes strawberries have started and will only improve as the days get longer with more sunshine.

From Europe and beyond, many citrus varieties are perfect at this time of year including leafy lemons, Spanish navels, clementines and bergamots. Lychees and pomegranates are also a great option for your menus. At this time of the year, our delicious melon varieties and air-freighted mangoes are typically coming from South America so definitely gives these a go too.

Veg

This month, the star of the show has to be our French white asparagus. A true delicacy, this wonderful vegetable is much sweeter than its green cousin and perfect for your winter dishes.

With winter weather continuing on, it calls for comforting produce such as roots and brassicas. Specialities from the continent include fennel, romanesco cauliflower, celeriac and globe artichokes. Italian produce such as puntarelle and cima de rapa are also gorgeous at this time of the year. And not forgetting hispi and savoy cabbage are also plentiful.

Mushrooms are a great staple of winter menus. At Classic Fine Foods, we have a great supply of grey & yellow chanterelle mushrooms along with wild morels & pied du muton mushrooms.
