The company was founded in Wieze, Belgium by Octaaf Callebaut. Octaaf’s secrets of chocolate making were perfected and passed down from one generation of chocolate makers to another. Today, their Master chocolate makers still use the original milk chocolate recipe from their predecessors as well as upholding the passion of their founder.

For all their chocolate ranges, Callebaut sources 100% sustainable cocoa. The chocolatiers reinvest money and support the farmers and their communities. By partnering with the Cocoa Horizons Foundation, which works directly with farmer groups, Callebaut supports farmer training and empowers young farmers & female farmers to excel in their craft.

Callebaut opened its flagship Chocolate Academy in Wieze in 2014. This centre was set up for chefs and chocolatiers to find inspiration, learn about chocolate techniques and exchange experiences.
